Changing The World By Expanding Ours
Are you ready to change their world by expanding yours?

MY STORY
Deb Brosnan’s journey with horses began at age seven.
So did her fear.
Placed in large group lessons where children and adults learned the same skills at the same pace, Deb quickly became familiar with falling. Over and over, she hit the ground. What began as excitement slowly became overwhelming anxiety.
Her heart loved horses.
Her body feared riding them.
That inner conflict — head versus heart — shaped everything that followed.
Determined to understand what was missing, Deb began studying horses from the ground up. After a ten-year break from riding, she found herself drawn to a mustang mare who would forever change her path.
The advice that guided her came from a cowboy she met only once:
“Learn her language first. Watch her. Understand her before asking her to understand you.”
So she did.
By observing posture, breathing, movement and subtle shifts in energy, Deb began to see that most so-called behaviour problems were actually communication gaps. The horse was always speaking. The rider simply didn’t know how to listen — or how their own body was contributing to the conversation.
In 1999, Deb became a licensed riding instructor.
And she quickly saw what traditional instruction was missing.
For both the horses and the riders.
Traditional instruction focused on the rider’s technique. It rarely considered how the horse was experiencing that technique — or how the rider’s own body, breath and emotions were shaping every moment of the ride without either of them realizing it.
So Deb built something different.
She called it Wholistic Riding.

Wholistic — because nothing was fractured or left out. Horse and rider were seen as one unbroken conversation. Not two separate beings with separate problems, but two living beings who simply hadn’t yet learned to fully understand each other.

Wholistic Riding changed that.
Blending biomechanics, feel, horse behavior and animal communication, it taught riders not just how they were riding — but how their individual horse was experiencing and interpreting every cue, every shift of weight, every unspoken emotion.
When the rider finally understood the horse’s language —
and the horse finally felt understood —
everything changed.

The problem horses weren’t problems in her lessons.
They were teachers.

For over two decades, Wholistic Riding transformed riders and horses that other instructors had given up on. Students who had lost their confidence. Horses labeled as difficult or dangerous. Partnerships that had broken down completely.
Yet even as her skill grew, Deb kept searching for something more.
A way to resolve fear more quickly.
She rode with accomplished instructors. She learned to jump. She rode powerful, reactive horses and pushed through panic. From the outside, she looked confident.

But pushing through fear is not the same as resolving it.
Over time Deb understood that technical skill alone was never going to be enough. Fear lives in the nervous system. It lives in the body. And unless it is addressed at that level, riders will continue to grip, brace and freeze — no matter how much instruction they receive.

That realization led to the next evolution.

Blending the foundations of Wholistic Riding with clinical hypnotherapy and nervous system regulation, Deb created The Confident Rider — a method that works at the root, not just the surface.

The result is not forced bravery.
It is functional calm.
Balanced movement.
Clear communication.
A restored partnership between horse and rider.
Deb describes herself not as the teacher but as the interpreter — helping riders understand both the horse’s language and their own nervous system, so the two can finally work together again.

Because riding should not feel like a battle between your head and your heart.
It should feel like coming home.
Testimonials
Deb is absolutely amazing!! I was having so many issues with my horse spooking and my just simply not enjoying riding her despite how much I wanted to. We just could not connect as a team. I spent 4 hours with Deb and my horse Figment. Deb communicated with her to start and made me aware of how my mare was feeling. She taught us to trust each other and listen to each other.... all within our first session. Figment and I had an amazing ride that day and have ridden almost every day since and all rides have been relaxed and fun. She’s a different horse and I really feel that we are in a great place together now. Deb's ability to communicate with the horses and help us to understand how they are feeling and how we should communicate with them in return is priceless. I honestly feel she has saved my relationship with both of my horses. I am eternally grateful that I found Deb and plan to take lessons from her and work with her whenever I can!!!

Deb has taught me that it's okay to take my time, trust my instincts, and believe in myself. I had a riding accident and fractured my scapula before riding with Deb. It was really hard to get back on a horse again and not be afraid. Deb helped me regain my confidence and she even ran beside me alongside the horse during lessons so I wouldn't be afraid.
I had another instructor who would yell at me and want me to try things that I wasn't comfortable with while I was trying to ride after my accident. That made me even more nervous! Deb helped me regain my confidence and let me work at my own speed. I always felt safe with Deb.

Deb Brosnan has been my daughter’s teacher for the past 4 years. During this time my daughter not only became a confident rider, but Deb brought out the true horse lover in her. She came to her as a shy, timid girl, and now has the confidence of a true horsewoman. I cannot say enough about Deb, she is wonderful to the students. It enriches all of her students both children and adults. She teaches not only the basic lesson plans, she puts great emphasis on barn safety, and the rider’s responsibility for ensuring that they will always be safe. Her lessons go from basic lessons, to learning about breeds, temperaments, health of horses, economics of the horse world etc.
She is such an expert in her field, I would not trust anyone else to teach my daughter. We had been at barns before hers, and this is by far the most outstanding experience my daughter has ever had.
This riding program has allowed my daughter the versatility, to learn English and Western riding specifically, jumping. Deb has such vast knowledge, that she is willing and able to help in any area a child might be interested in.
I would highly recommend Deb Brosnan as a riding instructor to any parent. Her own love of horses, transposes onto the children, and the end result, is a happy, confident rider.
